1 Steelers wide receiver would be perfect for flag football at 2028 Olympics

After NFL owners voted in favor of allowing players to compete in flag football at the 2028 Olympic Games, hype surrounding which elite superstars should attend is at an all-time high. While everyone has been talking about some of the NFL's best making the flag football roster — such as Lamar Jackson, Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Derrick Stingley — one underrated Steelers wide receiver is a perfect fit: none other than Calvin Austin III.

Austin is one of the fastest receivers in the NFL — and his quickness will be even more valuable in a five-on-five format in flag football. His game-changing speed will require safety help over top, almost erasing two players on defense immediately. He is also permitted to line up in the backfield, as well as outside, creating some exciting potential for trick plays and motions that'll keep DBs on their toes.

His 5'8", 170 lb frame in the NFL may be considered a liability, but in flag football, it's a weapon — as pulling his flags at such a low point while he's moving at near 4.2 speed will be nearly impossible.

Fans may argue that Tyreek Hill is comparable, if not a better selection to attend the 2028 Olympic Games — and they would be right. But the All-Pro Dolphins WR will be 34 years old by the time they begin competing, where Austin would then likely have the speed advantage.

If anyone is still questioning Austin’s abilities, consider this: Sauce Gardner — one of the best young CBs in the NFL — once said the Steelers receiver was the most difficult WR he ever guarded in college.

2028 is still a long ways off — but if Austin is being left off any flag football roster predictions, it's time to reconsider.
