15 softball, 11 baseball players from Richland County earn All-MOAC honors
MANSFIELD — The Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference announced its annual all-league softball and baseball teams.
In softball, Ontario's Ellie Dawson, Edie Howard and Morgan Pearson were selected as first team honorees from the co-league champs. Dawson hit .437 with 31 hits, six doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 34 RBIs and 26 runs scored, while Howard led the team in batting average with a .452 clip with 38 hits, eight doubles, six home runs, 25 RBIs and 28 runs. Pearson hit .372 with 29 hits, eight doubles, six home runs, 24 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Howard and Pearson did most of the pitching for the Warriors. Howard went 6-7 with a 2.28 earned run average with 99 strikeouts in 83 innings. Pearson went 10-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 51 innings of work.
Clear Fork's Mel Blubaugh and Hailly Thrush were first team selections for the Colts. Blubaugh hit .405 with 32 hits, six doubles, three triples, two home runs, 16 RBIs and 28 runs scored while Thrush hit .397 with 31 hits, four doubles, three triples, six home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
Shelby put Braylee Sturts and Natalie Kennard on first team All-MOAC. Sturts hit .458 with 38 hits, four doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 27 RBIs and 37 runs scored while Kennard hit .363 with 33 hits, five doubles, two triples, 18 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Clear Fork's Jada Brokaw and Katrina Rogers joined Ontario's Brinlee Kreger and Shelby's Alyssa Booker and Karlie Walp as second team selections with Clear Fork's Miley Shafer, Ontario's Kennedy Weiler and Shelby's Kelsey Young taking honorable mention honors.
In baseball, Clear Fork's Jay Jackson was the lone first teamer for the Colts. He hit .429 with 30 hits, four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 20 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He was joined by Ontario's James Mahon and Shelby's Quinton Albert and Travis Slone as first team selections. Mahon hit .300 for the Warriors with 24 hits, five doubles, five RBIs and 18 runs scored while also posting a 2-1 record on the mound with a 1.19 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 29 ⅓ innings. Albert had a big year offensively hitting .449 with 35 hits, 10 doubles, seven home runs, 32 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Slone hit .351 with 27 hits, three doubles, five triples, a home run, 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored while going 7-3 on the mound with a 1.76 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 47 ⅔ innings.
Clear Fork's Mason Sansom and Garett Hotz joined Ontario's Jaren Holden and Shelby's Nic Eyster as second team selections while Clear Fork's Mason Ball, Ontario's Carter Walters and Shelby's Brady Bowman were honorable mentions.
