18-Year Old Tennis Star From Los Angeles Passes Away After a Tragic Accident

The Loyola High School community is mourning the tragic loss of senior tennis standout Braun Levi, who was killed early Sunday morning in a suspected DUI crash in Manhattan Beach. The 18-year-old, recently crowned Mission League doubles champion, was just weeks away from graduation.

According to Manhattan Beach police, the crash occurred shortly after midnight. A 33-year-old Los Angeles woman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in connection with the tragedy. Levi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Levi had recently celebrated his fourth consecutive league doubles title, posing proudly with his teammate Cooper Schwartz. His achievements on the court were especially meaningful following a challenging year for his family, who had relocated to the South Bay after losing their Pacific Palisades home in a January firestorm.

Loyola High School Principal Jamal Adams described Levi as “a shining presence in our Loyola family,” adding that he brought “light, joy, and inspiration to everyone he touched.” The school held a prayer vigil Sunday evening to honor his memory.

Brian Held, coach of the Loyola varsity tennis team, called Levi “probably the most decorated player to ever play for the school.” Levi served as a three-year captain and was widely admired for his leadership and dedication.

This marks the second time in recent years that Loyola High has faced the loss of a student-athlete. In April 2023, baseball pitcher Ryan Times was struck and killed by a train during spring break

As the investigation continues, the Loyola community remembers Braun Levi not only for his athletic prowess but also for his warmth and resilience.
