2 'ideal' 2026 NFL draft picks for Indianapolis Colts
Eric Edholm of NFL.com recently selected the "ideal" top two picks for every NFL team. So, who did he pair with the Indianapolis Colts?
Factoring into Edholm's decision-making was team needs, when they pick, and which prospects could be available at that time.
Let's dive into his two selections.
Pick No. 47: Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Texas Tech
What's the need? Well, it's a very big one. Even with the addition of Davis-Gaither, this is a position group very short on experience. Depth is needed, and more competition for playing time is needed. You name it, the Colts need it at linebacker.
What to know about Rodriguez: Rodriguez was one of PFF's highest-graded run defenders at the linebacker position. He also had good ball production in coverage, generating four interceptions and three pass breakups. Rodriguez forced seven fumbles as well.
What Edholm had to say: "You just know GM Chris Ballard would have the hots for Rodriguez’s football instincts and character, as well as his playmaking ability, in Indianapolis. An edge rusher would have been nice, but the offerings weren’t enticing enough there."
Pick No. 78: Antonio Williams, WR, Clemson
What's the need? The Colts invested heavily in the receiver position by re-signing Alec Pierce; however, the depth of this group took a hit when Michael Pittman was traded. As of now, that WR3 role on the depth chart behind Pierce and Josh Downs is up for grabs. Westbrook-Ikhine and Ashton Dulin are the likely frontrunners competing for that playing time. But another addition at this position to boost competition and hopefully raise the floor of this unit should still be on Ballard's radar.
What to know about Williams: Williams is listed at 5-11, 190 pounds. He's been a big part of the Clemson offense the last two seasons, totaling 172 targets during that span, which includes nearly reaching the 1,000-yard mark in 2024. Williams has caught 15 touchdowns over the last two seasons and was quite good after the catch with the ball in his hands.
Considering that most of Williams' snaps have come from the slot, I do wonder about the fit with the Colts, with Josh Downs already on the team.
What Edholm had to say: "Grabbing Williams in Round 3 felt like respectable value. He’s a smaller-framed receiver and not a true burner, but Williams is a consistent producer who can make defenders miss."
