49ers take EDGE, WR in new 2-round mock draft
The San Francisco 49ers have two picks late in the first two rounds of the 2026 NFL draft, picks they can use at a few different positions they'll need to reinforce to remain competitive this year.
While the 49ers were a win away from claiming the NFC West title and top seed in the conference, the team is still in a close battle with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and NFC runner-up Los Angeles Rams. This draft class will be critical for general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan to maintain their status in the NFC and continue to compete at an elite level.
Underdog's Josh Norris and Hayden Winks went through the first two rounds of the draft to hand out their favorite picks for each team and landed on edge rusher and receiver for San Francisco. Now, these are two of the few positions of need for the 49ers, but the Underdog duo started with Miami edge rusher Ahkeem Mesidor at No. 27 before circling back to receiver at No. 58 with Lousiville's Chris Bell.
Mesidor was a prolific sack artist during his final season at Miami with an SEC-best 12.5 sacks in 2025. He's at a solid size with a 6-foot-3 and 259-pound frame, but Mesidor is already 25 years old — an age some teams may be wary of spending a high pick on. Mykell Williams, the 49ers' first-round edge rusher in 2025, was only 21 when he was drafted, and Nick Bosa is only three years older than Mesidor despite playing seven NFL seasons already.
Bell was the other pick, and his biggest issue is the ACL tear he sustained late in the season on Nov. 22. Bell was having a career season before the injury and had already tallied 72 receptions for 917 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games. He caught 151 receptions for 2,166 yards and 12 touchdowns in four seasons with the Cardinals.
Mesidor and Bell have their flaws, but both are quality prospects when on the field. This certainly wouldn't be the strangest picks for the 49ers in the first two rounds if it came to pass.
Edge rusher and receiver are needs the 49ers don't need to address immediately, but adding two solid prospects like Mesidor and Bell would certainly lay the groundwork for stability at both positions in the future.
