7 biggest winners from Bears' impressive win vs. Cowboys

The Chicago Bears defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 31-14, to give Ben Johnson his first win as a head coach -- and they defeated former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus in the process.

The Bears offense came to life against a bad Cowboys defense, where quarterback Caleb Williams had one of his best outings in his young career. Chicago's offense totaled 385 yards, four touchdowns, 31 points and zero turnovers. We caught a glimpse of what this offense can eventually become with Johnson's creative playcalling and explosive playmakers. While the Bears defense was far from perfect, they allowed just 14 points, pitched a second-half shutout and forced four turnovers on the day, and that's down three defensive starters.

Here's a look at the Bears' biggest winners from their huge win vs. Cowboys.

QB Caleb Williams

Second-year quarterback Caleb Williams continues to make strides in his first season with head coach Ben Johnson, and he had his best game to date against the Cowboys. Williams completed 19-of-28 passes for 298 yards with four touchdowns and zero turnovers for a 142.6 passer rating. The biggest story for Williams was the emergence of the deep ball, where he connected on two long touchdown passes, including a 35-yard touchdown to wide receiver Rome Odunze. But his most impressive throw came on a flea flicker, where he saved a bad pitch by D'Andre Swift and threw a beautiful 65-yard touchdown to rookie wideout Luther Burden III.

WR Luther Burden III

Where the heck has Luther Burden III been hiding? The second-round rookie was one of the biggest winners in this game, especially as it pertains to his usage for the remainder of the season. Burden, who had two receptions in two games, totaled three catches on three targets for 101 yards and his first NFL touchdown. He also has one rush for seven yards. It was nice to see the rookie more involved on offense, and we expect to see plenty more of Burden this season after that outing.

LB Tremaine Edmunds

The Bears defense showed up in a big way against a high-powered Cowboys offense, which included four takeaways. Half of those takeaways came from linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who had two crucial interceptions to halt promising Dallas drives. It was the first two-interception game of the linebacker's career. Edmunds also finished with a game-high 16 tackles in an impressive showing for Chicago's defense.

CB Tyrique Stevenson

After a disastrous start in the first two games, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson redeemed himself in a big way. Stevenson was one of the defense's MVPs, which included a tone-setting takeaway on the Cowboys' opening possession where he ripped the ball out of running back Javonte Williams' hands. That led to a Bears touchdown to give them an early lead. Stevenson, who totaled three tackles and two pass breakups, was the team's best cornerback in coverage and also provided solid run support.

WR Rome Odunze

Rome Odunze continues to be one of the breakout players of the 2025 seasons so far. There's no doubt that Odunze has emerged as the Bears WR1, surpassing DJ Moore, and he's become a favorite target for Caleb Williams. Following a career day in a losing effort against the Lions, Odunze totaled three receptions for 63 yards (trailing only Luther Burden) and a touchdown. Odunze now has four touchdowns in three games, which is the most in the NFL. While Odunze had a couple of drops he'd like back, there's no denying he had an impressive showing on offense.

HC Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson finally got his first win as Bears head coach, and it was an impressive one. We finally caught a glimpse of what this Bears offense is going to look like -- from trick plays to explosive plays to 30-point games. But they've still got a ways to go to become a consistent unit. Still, Johnson deserves kudos for his showing as offensive play caller and head coach, including the decision to go for it on fourth-and-goal, which resulted in a touchdown that put Chicago up 31-14. While Johnson isn't known for smiling even when good things are happening, he's surely smiling with his team after this victory.

DC Dennis Allen

After being humiliated by the Detroit Lions to the tune of 52 points last week, Dennis Allen rallied his guys for an inspired outing against a high-powered Cowboys offense. Dallas, who averaged 30 points per game, was held to just 14 points. Chicago pitched a second-half shutout, which included some key takeaways to halt scoring drives, and totaled two sacks. But it wasn't perfect as the Bears struggled to stop the run (allowing 121 rushing yards) and struggled in coverage. Their performance is even more impressive considering the Bears were without three defensive starters in Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon and T.J. Edwards.
