9 games that Oregon Duck fans should pay attention to in Week 1 of college football

College football officially returned a week ago as a handful of teams got action underway in Week 0, but if we're being honest, that was just an appetizer.

Now comes the main course.

Things kicked off on Thursday night with a handful of great games, and there are a few notable matchups on Friday night as well. And then on Saturday morning, the feast begins. There are a number of marquee matchups in Week 1 that will last throughout the weekend, with teams like the Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish all getting in on the action.

While Oregon is expected to win comfortably against the Montana State Bobcats, there are other things that Duck fans should be keeping an eye on throughout the weekend. Here are the top games we encouraged everyone to tune into over the next several days.

No. 1 Texas Longhorns at No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes

When: Saturday, August 30, 9 a.m. PT

Where to Watch: FOX

Why to Watch: Not only is this the biggest game of the weekend, but it is undoubtedly one of the biggest Week 1 non-conference matchups we've seen in quite a long time. Both Ohio State and Texas enter the season with new starting quarterbacks and eyes on the College Football Playoff with dreams of a national championship.

No. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide at Florida State Seminoles

When: Saturday, August 30, 12:30 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: ABC

Why to Watch: In all likelihood, this isn't going to be a great game, since Florida State is looking to rebound after a 2-10 season, but Alabama should be the real deal this year, so it will be fun to tap in and see what Ty Simposn looks like under center, and Kalen DeBoer in his second year at the helm.

No. 9 LSU Tigers at No. 4 Clemson Tigers

When: Saturday, August 30, 4:30 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: ABC

Why to Watch: Another one of the top matchups to watch this weekend, both Clemson and LSU go into the year with high expectations and goals of making the College Football Playoff. Neither Dabo Swinney nor Brian Kelly have stellar records in season-opening games, so this will be an important one for both sides to get started on the right foot.

New Mexico Lobos at No. 14 Michigan Wolverines

When: Saturday, August 30, 4:30 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: NBC

Why to Watch: You may be surprised to see this game on the list, but truthfully, I just want to tune in for a quarter or two in order to watch Bryce Underwood and see what all the hype is about. Oregon will have to face him at some point down the road, so let's see what he can do.

California Golden Bears at Oregon State Beavers

Oregon State's Maalik Murphy throws the ball during the Oregon State Spring Game at Reser Stadium on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Corvallis, Ore.

When: Saturday, August 30, 7:30 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: ESPN

Why to Watch: You know that Oregon Duck fans are going to want to watch Jaron-Keave Sagapolutele and his first start with the California Golden Bears. On a similar note, it will be interesting to see what Maalik Murphy can do with Oregon State, as the Ducks will play them in just a handful of weeks.

Utah Utes at UCLA Bruins

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava speaks to the media during the Big Ten NCAA media days.

When: Saturday, August 30, 8 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: FOX

Why to Watch: Getting to see Nico Iamaleava Jr. in a new home at UCLA has me intrigued, to say the least.

Colorado State Rams at Washington Huskies

Washington football coach Jedd Fisch looks at the scoreboard during the second quarter at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

When: Saturday, August 30, 8 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: Big Ten Network

Why to Watch: Who doesn't want to watch Jedd Fisch and the Huskies as they start what is supposed to be a bounceback year up in Seattle?

No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at No. 10 Miami Hurricanes

When: Sunday, September 1, 4:30 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: ABC

Why to Watch: The marquee game on Sunday, Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes take on Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish in a top-10 clash. This one should be entertaining to watch as both try to get off to a hot start.

TCU Horned Frogs at North Carolina Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA - MARCH 08: North Carolina Tar Heels football head coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson look on during the first half of the game between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils at Dean E. When: Monday, September 2, 5 p.m. PT

Where to Watch: ESPN

Why to Watch: Name one college football fan who isn't at least a little bit intrigued by watching Bill Belichick kick off his college career with North Carolina on Monday night. I'll wait.
