A potential list of Notre Dame opt outs was released and its long

Part of the reason why Notre Dame football opted out of playing a bowl game was due to the potential of multiple players sitting out, and the team looking nothing like what we all saw during the fall.

We’ve seen this happen to multiple teams over the past few seasons, with rosters getting depleted due to the transfer portal and coaching changes. While some of that isn’t a factor anymore, the portal has just a single window now starting after most bowls, look ahead to next season could be a new reason why players would sit out.

Mike Bernardino of the South Bend Tribune posted a potential partial list of Irish players who could have opted out, and it is very long. He suggests stars like running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price (no surprises), wide receiver Malachi Fields, offensive lineman Billy Schrauth, safety Adon Shuler, defensive end Boubacar Traore, linebacker Drayk Bowen and safety Tae Johnson.

It’s a good amount of starters, along with some contributors as well, which would not have been the same Notre Dame team we saw this fall. It would have consistent of multiple backups with some starters mixed in. Then the question of if Marcus Freeman should play any of his starters for risk of injury.

If this was the case, it’d be a mess outcome and makes more sense as to why Notre Dame opted out of a bowl game.
