AJ Dillon gets first-team reps ahead of Will Shipley on the first day of training camp
When former Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell left for Pittsburgh in free agency, many believed that Will Shipley would assume the RB2 role. That doesn't appear to be the case on the first day of training camp.
As the Eagles' offense took the field for practice, A.J. Dillon received first-team reps before Shipley. It's too early in camp to draw any conclusions, but it is a position battle to monitor.

After missing the entire 2024 season due to a neck injury, Dillon signed a one-year deal with the Eagles to provide extra power in the backfield. The 2020 second-round pick was a reliable backup to Aaron Jones in Green Bay, rushing for 600+ yards in three consecutive seasons.
If he remains healthy, Dillon's bruising running style can help close out games and allow the Eagles to limit Barkley’s mileage throughout the year. As for Shipley, his pass-catching ability will give him the chance to earn reps in 3rd-and-long situations.
