Alabama adds former Tennessee running back through transfer portal

Former Appalachian State running back Khalifa Keith has officially transferred to Alabama, per Bama247's Brett Greenberg.

Keith will join the Crimson Tide following three seasons split between Tennessee and Appalachian State, as Keith struggled to make a true impact in six appearances for the Mountaineers in 2025. At 6’1”, 235 pounds, Keith is a talented running back that could quickly make an impact on the Alabama offense in 2026, should he see an increase in playing time.

An Alabama native who attended Parker High School, Keith recorded just three total carries for eight yards in 2025, as the playmaker will now turn his full attention towards turning things around with the Tide next season. While at Tennessee in 2023-24, Keith rushed for a combined 124 yards and one touchdown on 35 carries in his 16 games played.

Keith was ranked as the No. 42 running back and the No. 613 overall player from the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Keith is an extremely talented and versatile playmaker despite having a limited roll in 2025, as the athletic running back could quickly prove to be an excellent addition to the Tide’s backfield in 2026.

Alabama has added a multitude of playmakers on the offensive side of the football throughout the offseason, as Keith could prove to make a legitimate impact during the 2026 campaign.
