All Arizona Cardinals' UDFAs have salary guarantees

The Arizona Cardinals only signed six undrafted rookies this year. They all got salary guarantees in addition to signing bonuses.

Based on the numbers, they expect at least five of the six to spend 2025 on their practice squad.

How do we know that?

The practice squad salary for a rookie is $13,000 per week, which comes to $234,000 over the 18 weeks of the season.

Five of the Cardinals' six rookie free agents have $234,000 in salary guarantees for 2025. The sixth, tight end Oscar Cardenas, has $50,000 in guaranteed salary.

There isn't any real risk for the Cardinals in offering those guarantees. The guarantees show they want the player on the team for at least a season. If they make the roster, they get paid more than that. If they are cut, they sign them to the practice squad and would get paid that amount anyway. If they are cut and another team claims them, the new team assumes the contract and the Cardinals are off the hook. And if the Cardinals cut them and they sign with a different team's practice squad, the offset language that comes standard in rookie contracts means that the Cardinals are again off the hook.

With that, here are the six rookie free agents for the Cardinals, their signing bonuses and their salary guarantees. All would make $840,000 in salary on an NFL roster.

• OL Jeremiah Byers: $40,000 signing bonus, $234,000 guaranteed salary, $274,000 total guarantees
• OL Valentin Senn: $40,000 signing bonus, $234,000 guaranteed salary, $274,000 total guarantees
• OL Josh Fryar: $35,000 signing bonus, $234,000 guaranteed salary, $269,000 total guarantees
• DL Elijah Simmons: $35,000 signing bonus, $234,000 guaranteed salary, $269,000 total guarantees
• WR Bryson Green: $30,000 signing bonus, $234,000 guaranteed salary, $264,000 total guarantees
• TE Oscar Cardenas: $10,000 signing bonus, $50,000 guaranteed salary, $60,000 total guarantees

When final roster cutdowns happen in August, all but Cardenas are basically a lock to be signed to the practice squad.
