Alvin Kamara explains why historic cleats aren't in the Hall of Fame
The New Orleans Saints have had many memorable games over the years, most of the top ones having been denoted by record-breaking moments. Drew Brees held many of those in his own right, as has Cam Jordan. But one of the most notable in recent memory was Alvin Kamara's Christmas Day special, where he put up six rushing touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in 2020, tying the all-time NFL record for rushing touchdowns in a game.
It was also denoted by the snow angel celebration and his cleats, which were something that had not been seen in the NFL prior, as he had one green and one red for the occasion. Unfortunately, the NFL fined him for this as it was not allowed, but then shortly after, they asked him for them, so they could place the pair in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Initially, many believed he had accepted, but recently, he sat down with Terron Armstead on The Set, and among other things, discussed the cleat debacle.
When asked by Armstead about the cleats, Kamara made it clear that he kept them and instead asked the NFL to pay him for them if they wanted them.
Kamara: "No, they asked me to, they don't got them."
Armstead: "You sure?"
Kamara: "C'mon, yes of course, why would I...why would I give them to them?"
Armstead: "Then they fined you."
Kamara: "They fined me, and then asked me if they could have them for the Hall of Fame, and guess what I did, I said 'yeah, y'all can have them, y'all gotta pay me for them though.'"
Armstead: "And they...?"
Kamara: "'We don't do that', and I said 'yeah y'all do', but I'm not gonna say who they paid, but they do that, and they was like 'nah well we don't' and I said 'ok well y'all cant have them', why would I do that, y'all fined me and now you wanna put it... no, N-O."
This discussion point was corroborated by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, who said when visiting Kamara's house previously, he had all of his cleats from his career in his office, both dated and catalogued.
This is real. When we went to his house last year, he had every pair of cleats he’s ever worn in a game in his office, dated and catalogued. https://t.co/xOUFZv9Kjwhttps://t.co/bS4BcuuuPO— Nick Underhill (@nick_underhill) December 23, 2025
It is intriguing to know that this is the case and how it all unfolded behind the scenes. The fine was a bit ridiculous, especially given how the cleats were so tied to the historic moment, which they have promoted repeatedly on loop every single year around Christmas time. Regardless, it is nice to know the cleats are with Kamara, and he has held onto them as a memory of that day.
