Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky captured their sixth victory of the season on Wednesday night, July 9, over Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. But Reese's double-double -- 15 points and 11 rebounds -- wasn't the story on social media the following morning. 

Reese took to her X account Thursday with two somewhat cryptic messages calling out unnamed people who the second-year WNBA star accused of "lying for clout," specifically on the social media app formerly known as Twitter.

"Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work," Reese wrote in her initial message. 

Reese followed that post with another a few minutes later. 

"Anywayyy good morning!" she continued. 

Exactly who Reese was calling out and for precisely what reasons weren't made clear by the posts, though people trying to connect themselves to athlete celebrities for personal gain of one sort or another isn't exactly new behavior. 

Reese, 23, is one of the most popular figures in women's sports currently with nearly 700,000 followers on X and a reach of five million followers on Instagram. As such, she is among the most lucrative targets for people looking to profit off of young fame and celebrity in a variety of ways. 

The Sky forward also happens to be one of the better players in the WNBA, leading the league in rebounding by a wide margin with 12.8 boards per game this season. Reese will play in her second consecutive WNBA All-Star Game on July 19, which airs on ABC, ESPN+ and Disney+ at 8:30 p.m. ET.
