Arizona loss leaves Miami RedHawks college basketball's only unbeaten
The top-ranked Arizona Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season Feb. 9 at Kansas, leaving the No. 23 Miami University RedHawks as the only undefeated team in Div. I men's college basketball.
The Wildcats led by three at halftime in Lawrence, but the No. 9 Jayhawks rallied past the No. 1 team for an 82-78 win.
Arizona fell to 23-1, 10-1 in the Big 12.
The RedHawks received 195 votes in the new AP Top 25 released earlier in the day. MU won at Marshall, 90-74, on Feb. 8.
The RedHawks, 11-0 this season in Mid-American Conference play, are scheduled to play Ohio next at Millett Hall on Feb. 13 at 9 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
Last week, Wisconsin–Green Bay men's basketball head coach Doug Gottlieb took a shot at the RedHawks' schedule, and suggested that he would like his team's chances in a head-to-head meeting with Miami despite the Phoenix's 12-12 record this season.
In late January, Reds play-by-play broadcaster John Sadak referred to the RedHawks as "such a fun story this season.
During the Jan. 30 broadcast of Akron's win against Kent State, CBS Sports college basketball analyst and former Xavier Musketeers head coach Pete Gillen said the RedHawks' NET strength of schedule "is gonna really hurt them."
