Arsenal vs. Fulham match thread: keep winning
The task for Arsenal is simple: win out. Preferably with some gaudy scorelines along the way but win first and foremost. Three points today would put a bit of table pressure on Manchester City — they’d be six points behind when they kick off against Everton on Monday. The Gunners also have the second leg of the Champions League semifinal on Tuesday to contend with, but they don’t really have options aside from a bit of rotation. Both today and Tuesday are must-win games.
Fulham are in the thick of the battle for the Europa League and Conference League places. They’ve played a bunch of low scoring matches lately — 9 total goals scored in their last 9 matches in all competitions. The reverse fixture in October stuck to that script too, a 1-0 Arsenal win on a Leandro Trossard second half goal.
Marco Silva has had a bit of trouble with his sides at the Emirates, though. His usually defensively resolute setup has conceded two goals in each of five trips to North London spread across three different clubs. The Cottagers have struggled away from home lately, stumbling to a 1-3-4 record with no goals scored in their last three away matches.
Mikel Arteta told the press that neither Jurrien Timber nor Kai Havertz would be available for today’s match. With the teamsheets released, Martin Ødegaard is also not in the squad. Presumably it’s a flare-up of the knee problem that has been plaguing him for most of the season and hopefully it’s a minor issue.
Fulham are without former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi, whose thigh injury might keep him out for the rest of the season. They’re also missing Ryan Sessegnon and Kevin both to game-to-game problems.
