Avon, FMFA to face off in Great Plains Conference championship on Friday
Oct. 14—FREEMAN, S.D. — Avon and Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy will meet on Friday, Oct. 17 for the Great Plains Conference football title, as the conference set its crossover week opponents to end the regular season.
FMFA will host the game at 7 p.m. in Freeman, with the Phoenix and Avon both at 7-0 on the season.
FMFA was the top team in the Great Plains Conference East division, while Avon was tops in the Great Plains West. The two teams also met in 2024 in the same championship matchup, with the Phoenix winning 36-26.
All six games are being played at the East Division site, with non-league team Platte-Geddes participating for the second year in a row to give the 11-team league an even number of teams.
The other Friday matchups for the Great Plains Conference include: Scotland/Menno (4-3) at Alcester-Hudson (5-2); Corsica-Stickney (5-2) at Platte-Geddes (6-2); Burke (3-4) at Centerville (4-3); Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian (1-6) at Gayville-Volin (1-6); Colome (0-7) at Irene-Wakonda (0-7).
