While it is known that Barcelona have set their sights on Alexander Isak as a dream signing, the financial constraints involved make the move extremely difficult.

According to reports from SPORT, in an ideal scenario, where money is not an issue, the Swedish striker would be the club’s number-one target.

However, the reality is far from simple, as Newcastle United are unwilling to part with their star forward unless they receive a significant offer.

Newcastle will not budge

Isak is under contract with Newcastle until 2028, which puts the Premier League club in a strong negotiating position.

Any club interested in signing him would have to pay a hefty transfer fee, with Newcastle reportedly demanding at least €120 million.

Furthermore, this valuation could rise further if Newcastle secure Champions League qualification, making it even more challenging for potential suitors.

Barcelona have been in touch

However, the feedback from Newcastle has not been encouraging. The club made an approach towards the end of 2024, but no progress was made due to financial limitations.

At present, Barcelona are not in a position to make such a high-profile signing unless they secure significant funds through player sales.

If they manage to offload key players and generate revenue in the summer transfer window, the idea of bringing Isak could become more realistic.

There is significant competition

Complicating matters further is the fact that Barcelona are not the only club monitoring Isak. Several top European teams, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, have also identified him as a priority signing.

These Premier League giants are looking to strengthen their attacking options, and Isak’s profile fits their needs perfectly. Beyond England, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also keeping a close eye on his situation.

Additionally, Isak’s salary currently stands at approximately €18 million gross per year, which could rise further if he moves to a new club.

This presents another challenge for Barcelona, as they must comply with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations.

The only way they can accommodate such a high-profile transfer is by making necessary financial adjustments, which would involve offloading players to create space in their budget.
