Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is one of the toughest players in the NHL, and he proved that again on Tuesday night.
Despite taking several savage hits and breaking multiple teeth in the process, McAvoy played through the pain and scored the game-winning goal in overtime, leading the Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at TD Garden.
With his mouth still bloodied, the battered veteran opened up about the toll of his injuries during his postgame interview with reporters.
"You know, I wish the hits would stop coming, honestly. It's tiring. My mouth honestly couldn't feel worse, but I'll get some work. We got a really good dentist here who's great," McAvoy said.
McAvoy is missing more teeth and says the injuries piling up is getting exhausting:
"You guys get 2 questions, I have to go get more dental work done."

"I'm just really happy we got two points tonight. Honestly, I didn't feel great or have my stuff tonight," McAvoy added. "Just to see it go in at the end, I kind of feel like all is forgiven. I just need to get some rest and I'll be better on Thursday. We'll just keep this thing going."
McAvoy has taken a lot of big hits during his nine-year NHL career, so it's not surprising that he's getting tired of them.
On the bright side, his seventh goal of the season was a huge one, giving Boston a much-needed win after Sunday's devastating overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It also extended the team's home winning streak to 13 games.
McAvoy's been hot lately with three goals in his last six games, so he and the Bruins will look to keep rolling when they host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
