Boston College OT is headed to Chicago
FOXBOROUGH - Ozzy Trapilo is headed to the Midway, as the Boston College offensive tackle was taken by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Trapilo will try and bolster a woeful offensive line and help protect quarterback Caleb Williams.
“That is awesome for Ozzy,” BC coach Bill O’Brien said via text.
Trapilo, who was born in Norwell and attended BC high school, was a captain for the Eagles.
He earned first-team All-ACC honors this past season, playing primarily at right tackle.
Trapilo’s father Steve was one of Doug Flutie’s chief line protectors playing both guard and tackle for Jack Bicknell’s teams from 1982-86. Steve Trapilo went on to play guard for the New Orleans Saints, but died of a heart attack at age 39.
For Ozzy, who was two when his dad passed, it’s been a dream to play in the NFL.
To prep for the scouting combine and pro day, Trapilo worked with Patriots legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.
Scarnecchia recently told MassLive he believed the 6-foot-8, 321-pound lineman would make it in the league.
“This is a kid that’s got great traits in terms of personality. He’s so coachable. So willing to do anything you ask,” Scarnecchia said. “I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t want this guy around to train, and try to be the best player he can be.”
Trapilo was taken 56th overall.
