BREAKING: Colts add to CB room in Round 3 of NFL draft, pick Minnesota's Justin Walley
With their third-round selection, the Indianapolis Colts select Minnesota cornerback Justin Walley with the 80th overall pick.
Walley measured in at 5-10 and weighed 190 pounds. He ran a 4.4-second 40 during the pre-draft process.
In his four seasons at Minnesota, Walley played 2,376 snaps, so he's quite an experienced player. Most of his snaps came on the boundary, where it was difficult to complete a pass against him.
According to PFF, Walley surrendered a completion rate during his career of just 53%, although when he did give up receptions, there were some big plays. In 2024, Walley allowed 17.2 yards per catch.
In terms of ball production, over the last two years, he's had three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. And for what it's worth, he has graded out well against the run by PFF's metrics.
After adding Charvarius Ward in free agency, along with bolstering the depth at cornerback by bringing in Corey Ballentine, this position wasn't nearly as big of a need as it was at the start of the offseason.
But Walley's presence could create some additional competition for that starting boundary spot with Jaylon Jones and JuJu Brents, or at a minimum, elevate the overall depth at a key position. His speed and ball production are calling cards for Lou Anarumo and his defensive scheme.
