Brian Kelly reveals why LSU football defensive tackle was dismissed from program

On Tuesday, it was reported that LSU football defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell was no longer with the team. On Wednesday, LSU head coach Brian Kelly added some details.

”We have standards that need to be met, and those standards weren’t met,” Kelly said.

Mitchell began his career at Texas before transferring to LSU after the 2024 season. Mitchell was a member of LSU's top-ranked transfer portal class. But Mitchell’s LSU tenure didn’t last long. The former four-star did not see the field in either of LSU’s first two games.

LSU has a deep stable of defensive tackles and there was never much buzz about Mitchell after he arrived in Baton Rouge. When Mitchell the Tigers, Bo Davis was LSU's defensive line coach. Mitchell was with Davis at Texas and there was hope a reunion could be just what Mitchell needed for a breakout. But Davis left LSU to be the New Orleans Saints' defensive line coach.

Mitchell, originally from New Jersey, will search for his third school. Mitchell has decent size and was a blue-chip prospect at one point. There will be an FBS team willing to take a chance.
