Browns former standout cornerback visiting with the Houston Texans
Former Cleveland Browns cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. is visiting with the Houston Texans today after spending his first four seasons with the Browns, after being selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft. Emerson was great in his first two seasons with the Browns, but had a down year in 2024 when teams picked on him a bit, resulting in a disappointing season for the young player.
Emerson was looking to bounce back in 2025, but he tore his Achilles tendon in training camp and missed the entire season. The Browns then traded for Tyson Campbell, and reports emerged that the Browns weren't likely to bring Emerson back for 2026.
It makes sense that the Browns wouldn't be that interested in bringing Emerson back because they don't have a starting role for him to play, though with Denzel Ward's history, he could've been decent depth. Often takes more than a year to fully recover after an Achilles injury. But Houston would be a good landing spot for Emerson if he ends up signing with the team.
