Buccaneers named landing spot for Super Bowl-winning edge rusher

The Bucs need to fix their edge rusher situation because this poor secondary will never have a chance to properly develop without pass rush helping them. In 2020, when they won the Super Bowl, that pass rush is what allowed the likes of Jamel Dean and Antoine Winfield Jr. to make as many plays as rookies as they did. Fast forward to the present, young defenders like Tykee Smith, Zyon McCollum, and Jacob Parrish need that same help.

With NFL free agency starting next month, folks are starting to make predictions for players who may sign with teams. One of the upcoming free agents is suggested to sign a Super Bowl-winning edge rusher in the Seahawks' Boye Mafe.

PFF's Mason Cameron wrote up the suggestion recently and says, "The experiment to bring in Haason Reddick on a one-year deal didn’t result in the pass-rush revival the Buccaneers had hoped for in 2025. . .Although Mafe didn’t headline the Seahawks‘ pass rush this past season, his career body of work is well worth the investment. His 84.2 PFF pass-rush grade on true pass sets over the past three seasons ranks in the 80th percentile. . .Mafe would be an excellent fit for a Buccaneers defense that aims to suffocate opposing run games."

Mafe and Diaby are each from the same cloth in terms of how they approach the pass rush game. That makes him a perfect fit for the team build, and he has been healthy and explosive for the Seahawks, something the Bucs have missed in recent years.
