Caitlin Clark Turns Heads with First Technical Foul of 2025 WNBA Season
The Indiana Fever are wrapping up their preseason on Saturday afternoon, aiming for a perfect 3-0 record heading into opening night on May 17, when they’ll tip off the regular season against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
But during Saturday’s game in Atlanta against the Dream, a fiery moment from Caitlin Clark stole the spotlight. After a fast and efficient start, tensions rose in the second quarter when the Dream went on a run to cut the Fever’s lead to just one point.
In a moment of frustration, Clark grabbed the basketball and forcefully threw it against the pad beneath the hoop—a move that surprisingly earned her a technical foul after she was upset with the official seemingly not calling a foul on the other end.

While it’s only the preseason and the game doesn’t count toward the standings, Caitlin Clark’s history with technical fouls has already become a topic of conversation. Last season, she came close to a one-game suspension due to her accumulation of techs, and during the offseason, she jokingly claimed she’d only receive two this year—an assertion many fans were quick to question.
Following the technical on Saturday, one referee was overheard telling Clark, “I’m not having this conversation… It’s just preseason.”
Nonetheless, the Fever went into halftime with a two-point lead, as Clark recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Fans reacted to Clark receiving a technical:
"She just wanted to get one in before the season starts but she’s def getting atleast 5," a fan said.
"Well, Caitlin Clark just got a tech. Didn’t think that would happen in pre-season," another fan posted.
Someone else added, "'Only two techs'"
One more fan commented, "Caitlin Clark got a tech already?"
