Chargers OC search: LA set to interview top candidate

The Chargers are set to interview former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for their vacant offensive coordinator role this upcoming Tuesday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

McDaniel, 42, was fired by Miami after a 35-33 record over four seasons, including two playoff berths. Since his dismissal, he's interviewed for multiple head-coaching jobs and offensive coordinator spots.

McDaniel's playcalling led Miami's offense to top rankings in yards and scoring in 2023. Before the Dolphins, McDaniel served as the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2021 and run game coordinator from 2017 to 2020. His units ranked highly in rushing, including No. 2 in 2019 en route to an NFC title and Super Bowl LIV appearance.

The Chargers have also interviewed internal candidates like passing game coordinator Marcus Brady and quarterbacks coach Shane Day, as well as former Titans head coach Brian Callahan.
