Chargers vs. Giants: 5 key things to know about Los Angeles' Week 4 opponent
The Chargers continue the 2025 regular season at MetLife Stadium against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 10:00 a.m. PT.
To get you prepped for the Week 4 bout, here are five key things to know about Los Angeles’ opponent ahead of the matchup.
Where the Giants stand
The Giants are off to a disappointing start in the season, with a 0-3 record through the first three weeks. Their losses have come to the Commanders, Patriots and Chiefs.
Change at quarterback
Following the loss to the Chiefs, the Giants benched veteran quarterback Russell Wilson in favor of rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart. Wilson had a strong outing against Dallas, throwing for 450 yards and three touchdowns. However, his other two games, against Washington and Kansas City, saw him throw for under 200 yards with no touchdowns. Dart takes over under center after having a polished college career at Ole Miss, setting school records for career total offense (12,115 yards), passing yards (10,617 yards), and rushing yards by a quarterback (1,498 yards).
Star player hoping to benefit from the change
2024 first-round pick wide receiver Malik Nabers had 25 targets for 14 catches, 238 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games of the season. However, Nabers was a non-factor against the Chiefs with only seven targets for just two catches for 13 yards. With Dart now at quarterback, the Giants are hoping that it provides more upside for the former LSU product.
Another offensive bright spot
Despite the team's struggles, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, fourth-round pick running back Cam Skattebo has played well early on in his professional career. Skattebo has exemplified his powerful and tenacious running style, as well as his ability to catch the football out of the backfield. Skattebo's role increased after Tyrone Tracy's injury in Week 3, leading to a strong performance against the Chiefs, where he recorded over 100 scrimmage yards. With Tracy out this weekend, Skattebo should see a lot of touches against the Chargers.
Poor defense
The Giants haven't been able to slow opposing quarterbacks, ranking 28th in the league in passing yards allowed per game, with 252.0 yards. Despite having a fearsome front, they haven't made much of an impact, as they're averaging a sack on 5.9% of opponent dropbacks, ranking 20th in the league. Meanwhile, their run defense has also struggled, ranking 31st with 153.3 rushing yards allowed per game.
