Charlotte 49ers officially announce Wes Miller as head coach

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte have made things official with Wes Miller to become the program's next head coach. Miller is a 15-year coaching veteran with stops at UNC Greensboro (2011-2021) and Cincinnati (2021-2026) over the course of his career.

He is a Greensboro, North Carolina native and played guard for the Tar Heels from 2004-2007 under Roy Williams.

Although he finished above a .500 record (100-74) in each of his five years with Cincinnati, he was never able to hoist the Bearcats to an NCAA Tournament berth, which ultimately led to the two sides parting ways.

Miller has had major success at the mid-major level with his time at UNC Greensboro, having led them to four regular season championships and two March Madness appearances.

A Rebuild for the 49ers

Miller now takes over a 49ers team that is in desperate need of some momentum, which he can surely provide. Under six different head coaches since their last March Madness appearance in 2004-2005, Charlotte has finished under a .500 record 12 times in 22 years.

He brings a decent recruiting edge with a proven track record, including seven 4-star recruits committing to Cincinnati during his time there.

Defense is also a big part of his coaching scheme, having led the Bearcats to a top-5 conference defense during his five-year run with the team.

Miller and Charlotte agreed to a five-year contract keeping him with the 49ers at the very least until the 2030-31 season.
