With a potential suspension on the line, Kansas City Chiefs fans can breathe a sigh of relief, for now, as their breakout wide receiver Rashee Rice received good news, of sorts, related to his ongoing legal battle.

After a high-speed hit-and-run in Dallas in 2024, Rice was facing two felony charges on top of any disciplinary action handed down by the NFL.

Rice plead guilty last month and was sentenced by Dallas PD to five years of probation and 30 days in jail anytime during that span. Now, we have news related to the NFL's investigation and potential punishment timeline.

Rice, 25, will have a disciplinary hearing on Sept. 30 in New York, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

The good news is that Rice will be able to play in the Chiefs' first four games of the sesaon leading up to his hearing. Any future suspension is now expected to come after this meeting.

Kansas City opens the season in Sao Paulo, Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5. That game is followed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 14, at the New York Giants on Sept. 21 and the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 28.

So far at training camp, Rice has been a full participant, impressing head coach Andy Reid with his composure amid his off-the-field situation.

"“He’s done a nice job off the field, he’s doing a nice job on the field,” Reid said. “You learn from your mistakes, that’s the important part. So all of that. On the field, he’s just been full speed ahead—no pun intended.”

“I feel 100 percent,” Rice added as he recovers from a season-ending knee injury from Week 4. “I’m excited to be back out here with the guys. Just kind of basically back where I left off at. So, I mean, only thing is get back on the field and just continue to have fun doing what I do.”

Rice will be a focal point of the Chiefs' dynamic offense in 2025 if he can return to his 2023 rookie-year form where he totaled 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
