Chivas made it four out of four as they got another victory, this time by a 3-2 score, over Atletico San Luis. Chivas continued as the only team to have 100% of their points so far in the Clausura 2026 and are solidly in first place in Liga MX. They should be heavy favorites to continue it as they will now travel to last placed Mazatlan to play on Friday while Atletico San Luis goes away to face off against Necaxa.

The 1st half started with Chivas repeating their starting 11. A left footed shot forced a save from San Luis’ goalkeeper, Andres Sanchez, but it was ruled offside. Five minutes into the match, Oscar Macias had to be subbed out for an injury. Roberto Meraz took his place. A cross into the area was volleyed from close range by Bryan Alonso Gonzalez but Sanchez came up with a great save. Because of a supposed punch, Daniel Aguirre got red carded although replays showed it shouldn’t have been. After going to VAR, the ref changed the ruling to a Yellow card. A cross into the area was headed by Armando Gonzalez but right to Sanchez. A great combination play ended with Roberto Alvarado making a back heel pass to Richard Ledezma, who got off a right footed shot past Sanchez to score and give Chivas the 1-0 lead. Almost immediately a cross into the area was lowered by Joao Pedro and bounced off Luis Romo’s hand which caused the referee to give a Penalty Kick to San Luis. Joao Pedro stepped up to take the PK and his right footed shot went past Chivas’ goalkeeper, Raul Rangel to tie the match at 1-1. Off a counter, Efrain Alvarez made a great pass to Gonzalez but his left footed shot was blocked by Sanchez and although he got to the rebound, his second shot went well wide. After getting past two defenders, Alvarez got off a right footed shot that went wide. From outside the area, Brian Gutierrez got off a great right footed shot that forced Sanchez to make a save. Off a corner kick, the cross into the area was deflected by Romo into the path of Daniel Aguirre, who from close range headed the ball past Sanchez to score and give Chivas the 2-1 lead. San Luis would answer just prior to the end of half time with Miguel Garcia getting the ball in the area, getting past two defenders and getting off a shot pas Rangel to score a “golazo” but the play was ruled offside. The hafltime whistle blew as Chivas had been “saved” by the new offside technology in Liga MX.

The 2nd half started with neither team making a change during the halftime break. A minute into the half, a cross in to the area was volleyed from close range by Joao Pedro, past Rangel and into the net to score and tie the match at 2-2. Chivas would respond almost immediately when Alonso Gonzalez would get off a cross into the area over Sanchez and Armando Gonzalez would then head the ball from close range into the open net to score and give Chivas the 3-2 lead. Off a counter, Alvarez got the ball in the area but his left footed shot would go wide. Chivas subbed out Brian Gutierrez and Armando Gonzalez for Ruben Gonzalez and Angel Sepulveda. Off a counter, Sepulveda had a great chance but he failed to control the ball and Sanchez got to it. San Luis subbed out Fidel Barajas and Sebastian Perez Bouquet for Anderson Duarte and Benjamin Galdames. Off a corner kick, the cross would be headed by Pedro but it went just wide. Chivas subbed out Richard Ledezma and Efrain Alvarez for Diego Campillo and Ricardo Marin. San Luis subbed out Lucas Esteves and Miguel Garcia for Roman Torres and Santiago Muñoz. The referee would give a red card to one of San Luis’ coaches for protesting. Chivas subbed out Daniel Aguirre for Miguel Gomez. Off a corner kick, a cross into the area forced Rangel to grab the ball almost from off the head of Pedro. Chivas held on for the result and bagged another key three points.

Chivas’ great start in the Clausura 2026 continued with their fourth win in four matches. Chivas once again showed great football although like their last match against Queretaro, they had to go extremely defensive in the final minutes of the match. Still there is no doubt that they are the team who has done the best so far in the season and their sole first place standing is more than deserved. Chivas will also have a great opportunity to extend their winning streak as they face off against Mazatlan, who sits in last place of the standings. This would be the last match prior to their biggest game of the season, the Superclasico against America. Chivas should be very receptive to the idea of coming to that match with all 15 points played so far. Atletico San Luis will travel to Aguascalientes where they will face off against Necaxa.
