Colorado football lands Grambling State kicker to boost special teams

With Alejandro Mata graduating, Deion Sanders headed into the offseason without a starting kicker for the first time in his coaching career.

However, it seems he's found his next kicker by dipping into the FCS ranks and landing a commitment from Grambling State's Josh McCormick. In 2025, McCormick went 6-10 on field goals with a long of 51 yards and made 87.5% of his extra points for the Tigers.

McCormick's numbers don't jump off the page immediately, but the potential in his leg might make up for an underwhelming 2025 campaign. The highlight of McCormick's season was a 44-yard game-winning field goal he drilled against Sanders' former home, Jackson State.

Before his season in Grambling, McCormick redshirted with Oregon State, where he kicked off against the Buffaloes in 2022 and made a brief stop at William & Mary. As a member of the Tribe, he was primarily a kickoff specialist, recording 34 touchbacks and one tackle.
