Commanders could be on the wrong side of history in Week 11 vs. Dolphins in Madrid

The Washington Commanders made history in 2024. After winning four games in 2023, the Commanders went 12-5 and made it all the way to the NFC Championship game before falling short to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Everything went right for Washington in 2024.

Now, the Commanders could be on the verge of history again in 2025. Only it's the wrong side of history.

Washington has lost five consecutive games ahead of its Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain. The last four losses have been by 21 points or more. Here's a look at Washington's recent run of futility:

  • Week 7: Lost to Dallas 44-22
  • Week 8: Lost to Kansas City 28-7
  • Week 9: Lost to Seattle 38-14
  • Week 10: Lost to Detroit 44-22

If the Dolphins defeat Washington by 20 or more points, that would be five blowout losses in a row for the Commanders. They would be the first team since the 1986 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose five games in a row by 20 or more points, according to Pro Football Talk. That's not the type of company Washington wants to join. The 1986 Bucs were arguably the worst team of the 1980s.

The good news is that the Dolphins are not the Chiefs, Seahawks, or Lions. Those are three of the NFL's best teams. However, Washington's defense may be the NFL's worst, and with injuries at defensive end and cornerback, the Commanders can't stop anyone. Head coach Dan Quinn took over the defensive coordinator role this week from Joe Whitt Jr. Unfortunately for Washington, that's unlikely to make much of a difference.

What a difference a year makes.
