Commanders' Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels discuss the Brian Robinson Jr. news

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn met with the media for the first time since it was revealed the team had made running back Brian Robinson Jr. available via trade. Quinn didn't get into the details of Robinson's situation, other than to say, "News like that’s always not easy."

Robinson, a 2022 third-round pick, has appeared in 41 games for the Commanders with 37 starts. He's rushed for 2,329 yards and 15 touchdowns in his NFL career.

Quinn confirmed that he and general manager Adam Peters spoke to Robinson on Saturday and made the decision not to play him in Washington's Week 2 preseason game against the Bengals. Quinn's updates on Robinson's future in Washington were vague, but telling.

"I'll give you an update once there's one to share with you," Quinn said.

Quinn also said he addressed the team as he wanted them to hear the news from him.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels also reacted to the Robinson news after Monday's game.

"DQ addressed the team and let us know, and that's kind of how he does business," Daniels said of Quinn.

NFL teams have one week to trim their rosters from 90 to 53 players. If Washington does not find a trade partner for Robinson over the next week, he'll likely be released. The emergence of seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt, along with the presence of Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Jeremy McNichols, made Robinson expendable. Veteran Austin Ekeler has a more defined role as Washington's pass-catching/third-down back.
