Commanders' Dan Quinn reveals where second-year lineman will play in 2025

The Washington Commanders have been quiet about where second-year offensive lineman Brandon Coleman will play in 2025. On Tuesday's edition of the "Green Light" podcast with former NFL star Chris Long, head coach Dan Quinn may have inadvertently revealed where Coleman will line up next season.

In discussing his offensive line, specifically the acquisition of five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil, Quinn revealed that Coleman would be Washington's starting left guard in 2025.

"We're going to move him inside to guard," Quinn told Long. "He had some experience at both at TCU, playing inside and outside. We're going to keep him on the left side."

Quinn then praised Coleman's ability to get to the second level, get on defenders, and stay on them, saying he had the "quickness of a tackle and the size of a big guy."

It's no secret that Coleman has been working at guard this offseason. During OTAs and the first day of Tuesday's minicamp, Coleman worked at guard, specifically left guard. That's not shocking. The most revealing part of Quinn's acknowledgment of where Coleman will play is that he and the Commanders have done a good job of keeping where Coleman and first-round pick Josh Conerly will play a secret. Conerly is a tackle, but many analysts believed he could also play guard.

Coleman, a third-round pick in 2024, appeared in 16 games, making 12 starts at left tackle. Coleman played well at left tackle, but almost every draft analyst believed his best long-term position would be guard. This means last year's starter at left guard, Nick Allegretti, likely becomes Washington's top interior reserve. However, Allegretti could compete with Andrew Wylie (also a tackle) and Nate Herbig to start at right guard until Sam Cosmi returns from injury.
