Commanders QB Jayden Daniels weighs in on Terry McLaurin's situation

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels hasn't said much regarding the prolonged absence of his top receiver, Terry McLaurin. With Washington just over two weeks away from the beginning of the 2025 season, McLaurin is no closer to a new long-term deal with the Commanders. Fortunately for Washington, he is under contract for 2025.

So what does Daniels think of the prolonged and contentious talks between McLaurin? He remains optimistic a deal will get done and things will return to normal.

“Hundred percent, I feel great (about a deal getting done),” Daniels told Dianna Russini on the latest episode of “Scoop City," via Tobias Bass of The Athletic. The entire episode comes out on Friday.

Why is Daniels confident?

“I just know that it is all gonna work out, that both sides will come to an agreement, and Terry’s gonna be back out here. We’re gonna be throwing some passes to him.”

Nothing fazes Daniels. Everyone knows he wants McLaurin back, yet he remains confident as he works to break in several new receivers, including former Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel.

McLaurin went over the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth consecutive season in 2024 — his sixth in the NFL. However, he established a new career-high with 13 touchdown receptions. He added three more in the playoffs. In his quest for a new contract, McLaurin skipped voluntary OTAs and the mandatory minicamp this spring. He initially held out of training camp, but reported after four days. Washington immediately placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list with an ankle injury.

Last week, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury expressed frustration that McLaurin wasn't on the field with teammates, and he was activated from the PUP list on the following day. While he has yet to fully return to practice, he is now in the "return to play" program and should be a full participant soon.

Will he have a brand new contract once he returns to practice? Jayden Daniels thinks it's coming.
