Cowboys Headlines: Tyron Smith shouts out Dak, Ware, Tyler Smith; Emmitt sick of Eagles
Tyron Smith dominated the Cowboys headlines for Wednesday, and rightfully so. The eight-time Pro Bowler signed a ceremonial one-day contract just so he could retire as a Cowboy, and his press conference was a celebration of his storied career. We'll have what he said about teammates like Dak Prescott and Tyler Smith, we'll share the mutual respect (and painful bruises) that he shared with DeMarcus Ware, and we'll reveal the high-profile promise made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones as Smith said goodbye. Oh, and wait until you see video clip that made the rounds from Smith's days as a USC Trojan.
Meanwhile, we're still getting ready for the NFL draft. We'll rank the national "30" visitors, we'll explore possible options at wide receiver and on the interior offensive line, and one analyst is calling for the Cowboys to move up for a running back. Elsewhere, the greatest running back in franchise history says he's sick and tired of one divisional rival. All that, plus an inside peek at the Cowboys' own air force that keeps the team flying all season long.
'Time to go': OL legend Tyron Smith signs 1-day contract, retires as Dallas Cowboy :: Cowboys Wire
Saying there was "no question" he wanted to officially retire as a member of the team he spent 13 seasons with, the eight-time Pro Bowler looks forward to spending more time (and being healthy) with his four children. A Hall of Fame enshrinement is almost certainly in Smith's future; Jerry Jones also promised a spot in the Ring of Honor as Smith made his retirement official on Wednesday.
As Tyron Smith retires, the torch of Dallas Cowboys’ OL prowess is now with Tyler Smith :: Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Tyron Smith left the Cowboys a year ago, and now Zack Martin is gone, too. There are questions about the remaining offensive line, but not about fourth-year man Tyler Smith. "Tyler has come in and set the standard that he wants to be great," Tyron said Wednesday. "He has increasing potential every year. His work ethic and what he puts into this game and how dominant he is on the field, it just shows that he’s getting better. He has potential to be one of the greats." In the last two seasons, Smith has allowed a team-low three sacks and 15 quarterback pressures. The torch is now his.
Cowboys' Tyron Smith paid touching tribute to Dak Prescott during retirement presser :: SI.com
Smith played with and alongside a who's who of the NFL's greats over his 14 years. But Dak Prescott got a special shout-out during Smith's farewell address. "One of the best teammates I ever had," said Smith. "Dak cares deeply about everyone in the locker room, and he's more than a teammate. He's a lifelong friend. And I'll always have your back. You'll always be QB1 to me."
Tyron Smith reveals DeMarcus Ware's advice that propelled Hall of Fame career for Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle :: A to Z Sports
On the practice field, Ware played a huge role in shaping Smith's dominating technique. "Taught me a lot," Smith explained. "Taught me that you're not the biggest man on the field or strongest man on the field, and that it comes down to technique. And taught me a lot. And it was games early on that I was struggling with and he pulled me to the side and worked with me and helped me be to who I am today, as far as player."

Ware remembered his interactions with Smith, too, as well as those blocking punches that the left tackle became known for throwing. “I told him ... ‘Listen, if you ever punch me again, it’s going down,'” Ware recalled. “There was no off switch. His hands, when they hit you? It was almost like it stopped your heart.” Dante Fowler has said it was like his soul was being removed from his body. Juanyeh Thomas says he hasn't breathed the same since he took one of Smith's hits.
Old USC clip shows just how freakish Tyron Smith has always been :: Mitchell Schwartz
Found my favorite ever clip of Tyron Smith. In college he gets out on a 1 man screen. Accelerates and runs stride for stride with the RB (outpaces him at times), then sees a DB going to cut him and 2 hands him down while leaping over him with a dead leg. Lands, accelerates to… pic.twitter.com/f2UEqBIq92— Mitchell Schwartz (@MitchSchwartz71) April 16, 2025

Nineteen of the team's "30 visit" slots have been filled, giving a good indication of which players the Cowboys are interested in. But looking at the list broken down by position- and then with the prospects ranked at each position- really puts the draft-weekend possibilities in better perspective.

NFL analyst and former quarterback David Carr thinks Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is worth moving up for in the first round. He pointed out the Cowboys have done it before, to get both Emmitt Smith and Dez Bryant once upon a time.
Emmitt Smith calls Cowboys a 'crying shame' amid rival Eagles' growing success :: CBS Sports
The all-time rushing champ has had it with paling in comparison to their Philadelphia rivals. "I'm sick of it," Smith told Philly radio station WIP regarding the Eagles' soaring popularity and success. "We have allowed others to nitpick at the [Cowboys] and make fun of the star … and that's what happens. … Now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, they win two Super Bowls and they think they're the best thing on the planet, and everywhere I go, I hear, 'Go Birds.' I'm sick of hearing 'Go Birds.'" Smith believe the Cowboys should have been in multiple Super Bowls since he left, since "every team [resets] every decade."

2025 NFL Draft: Best 5 fits for Cowboys at interior offensive line :: Cowboys Wire
It's not a flashy pick, but nobody ever regrets drafting a center or guard who proves to be a mainstay of the offensive line for years to come. From Alabama's Tyler Booker to Kelvin Banks Jr. of Texas, Ohio State's Donovan Jackson to West Virginia's Wyatt Milum, and Grey Zabel from North Dakota State, one of these interior linemen could be the next foundational piece of the Great Wall of Dallas.
A look at the Dallas Cowboys' private jet fleet :: Simple Flying
The world's most valuable franchise has quite an air force at its disposal. The Boeing 777-200 widebody charter they use during the season can seat up to 270 and offers lots of room for players, coaches, and staffers. Jerry Jones has a luxuriously-appointed Gulfstream V (registered as N1DC) for his business needs, and then there's the Airbus chopper that sets Jones down just steps away from AT&T Stadium on gameday or directly onto the practice field at The Star.
