Cowboys jersey shake-up continues after Jalen Thompson announcement
The Cowboys equipment staff has been put to work lately as a day after defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku announced he was switching jersey numbers, the Cowboys biggest offseason addition to date revealed the number he will be wearing in Dallas.
Newly signed safety Jalen Thompson posted on his instagram account that he will be sporting the number 34, the same number he wore during his seven season in the desert with the Arizona Cardinals. Thompson also wore that number in college at Washington State.
Thompson was signed by the Cowboys at the start of free agency to a three-year, $36 million deal, the largest contract handed to an outside free agent by Dallas this decade. Dallas is expecting him to patrol the back end of a defense that ranked among the worst in the league last season.

The number 34 was worn previously worn by rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. last season which means heading into year-two, Revel Jr. will be sporting a new jersey number next seasons, thankfully.
No disrespect to Cowboys five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro cornerback Cornell Green, the optics of a cornerback wearing number 34 just didn't sit right with many. In their defense, Green did play safety for Dallas which eased the critics.
Single-digit numbers have become the trend in the NFL lately and if Revel Jr. hopes to land one of those, Dallas only has two available.
Number 1 is currently available which was previously worn by the now departed wideout Jalen Tolbert, and number 2 is also vacant thanks to the departure of safety Juanyeh Thomas, who signed with the Colts.
A few other jersey numbers remain yet spots are beginning to dwindle.
