Cowboys to meet with Parker on Wednesday; Packers also interested
The Cowboys will continue with second interviews for their open defensive coordinator position, but there may be some new competition for at least one of the candidates.
Eagles defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Christian Parker is set to meet in-person with Cowboys brass on Wednesday, but then he is scheduled to fly to Wisconsin to meet with the Packers about their DC opening.
Green Bay is looking to replace Jeff Hafley, who on Monday was named the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Parker had previously interviewed for the Packers' DC job back in 2024, but the role went to Hafley instead. Parker has history with Green Bay's Matt LaFleur, having been on-staff in Green Bay in 2019 and 2020 as a defensive quality control coach.
Cowboys defensive coordinator update: Jonathan Gannon interviews in-person Tuesday. Christian Parker interviews in-person Wednesday. With Daronte Jones, those are the three in-person interviews so far. Jim Leonhard remains in the running but can't have an in-person talk yet.— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) January 19, 2026
Dallas has already conducted a second interview with Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Daronte Jones, and former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was set to visit for his on Tuesday. It is widely believed the club also still has interest in Broncos defensive pass game coordinator Jim Leonhard, but teams are temporarily barred from speaking further with him while Denver remains alive in the postseason.
Whether the Cowboys will wait for that opportunity could hinge on Parker's face-to-face interview.
If talks with Parker go well on Wednesday, and knowing the Packers are eager to meet with him afterward, the Cowboys may elect to not let the 34-year-old leave the building and end their DC search.
