Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton responds to Manchester United rumours
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has finally responded to the frequent rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United. The Red Devils want to strengthen in the middle of the park at the Old Trafford club, and the 21-year-old is widely believed to be on their radar. Man United head coach Ruben Amorim could do with someone like Wharton, but the Palace star has a couple of suitors also keen on recruiting his services and he is currently concentrating on improving himself right now.
“I don’t know who’s spreading it or who at United is looking at it,” he told The Athletic when asked what he makes of the particularly frenzied discourse regarding him and United.
“I see it and I’m like, ‘OK’, and then I carry on with my day. United, the big teams, they’re all linked to 10, 20 different players. If I’m one of 20, then it’s nothing special, so it doesn’t really mean too much. I speak with my agent about planning ahead and possibilities.
“But at the end of the day, it is who’s interested and who’s willing to try and get you if that becomes the case? You can speak about it, but you’ve got to represent that on the pitch and prove that you deserve it.”
Wharton has been included in the England squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia and will be hoping to make his second appearance for the Three Lions during the break. Man United and other suitors will continue to keep tabs on him ahead of the summer transfer window. He will not be available for cheap given his quality and huge potential, and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be keen to break the bank to sign him.
They also have Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba on their radar, but signing both players could be above their budget as they also need to strengthen in other areas.
