Damaged Stanley Cup to undergo repairs before Panthers parade

The Stanley Cup has certainly seen better days. But that's typically the case right after it's handed off to the latest NHL champions.

While the Florida Panthers were celebrating their second consecutive title across Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, the Cup took some very visible damage both to the base and the bowl. The good news is, the Keepers of the Cup (official job title) are prepared for this level of debauchery and expect the cup will be repaired before the team's parade on Sunday.

More from ESPN:

The bowl of the famous trophy is cracked and the bottom is dented. Not for the first time and likely not the last.

...A spokesperson for the Hockey Hall of Fame said the keepers of the Cup are taking the appropriate steps and plan to have it repaired by the celebration parade on Sunday. Made of silver and a nickel alloy, the 37-pound Cup is relatively malleable."

The parade itself kicks off at noon ET on June 22 at A1A and Riomar Street before traveling to the north end of Fort Lauderdale Beach Park by Hotel Maren, where a stage will be set up for the rally and speeches. We'll see what kind of shape the Cup is in by the end of the day.

If it needs to be repaired again, well, that still won't be a surprise.
