Dave Portnoy ghosted by Caitlin Clark after McCaffery run-in
Barstool Sports founder and self-described Indiana Fever fan Dave Portnoy is upset.
Even as his beloved Michigan Wolverines are playing for an NCAA championship, Portnoy is grieving the loss of his “No. 1 relationship.”
During a recent edition of Barstool Live, Portnoy railed at Barstool personality Rico Bosco for an incident that resulted in Fever star Caitlin Clark halting communication with him.

“She blocked me. Caitlin Clark has blocked me and is now not responding to me,” Portnoy said. “You cost me a Caitlin Clark relationship.”
According to Awful Announcing, the incident began when Portnoy made a comment about former Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery. Clark’s boyfriend is McCaffery’s son, former Iowa player Connor McCaffery.
In an X post, Portnoy praised current Iowa head coach Ben McCollum, who led the Hawkeyes to the Elite Eight.
“It took 1 year for them to go further than their entire 17 year run with Fran,” Portnoy posted.
Then, Portnoy described a dinner during which Bosco handed him a phone to speak to a member of the McCaffery family. It turned out to be one of Connor’s brothers. Evidently, the call did not go well.
“I’m really mad,” Portnoy said. “You put the phone in front of me. I didn’t even know who it was. I’m like, ‘Who is this,’ because they’re mad about Fran McCaffery.”
Portnoy said he tried to contact Clark to do one of his famous pizza reviews in Indianapolis, the site of the men’s Final Four.
“The phone went to green,” he said. “I DM’d her. No response. She always responds.”
Consequently, Bosco, who claims to have a relationship with the McCaffery family, vowed to broker a truce. “I’ll get that back,” he told Portnoy. “I’ll work on it and get that back.”
Clark is preparing for her third WNBA season. The league and players association agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement in March. As a result, the 2026 season will begin as scheduled on May 8.
Clark and the Fever will meet Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on May 9 in the season opener for both teams.
