The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Las Vegas Aces, 95-68, on Saturday to claim their third victory of the season.

Forward Kayla Thornton had a 22-point and 11-rebound double-double, and guard Veronica Burton scored 14 points and dished out 12 assists to end her eighth outing with a double-double. Forward Cecilia Zandalasini scored 18 points, and Kate Martin scored 12 points and collected seven rebounds within 26 minutes of playing time off the bench.

Golden State played well in its last outing, and now the Valkyries plan on adding more firepower by signing forward Laeticia Amihere to their roster on Sunday. Amihere, 23, was first signed to the WNBA’s newest franchise via waiver claim on Feb. 6 but didn’t make the final roster and was released two days before the start of the season on May 14.

The Atlanta Dream drafted her eighth overall in the 2023 draft and she spent two seasons with them. By the end of 2024, Amihere had only averaged 1.1 points and 1.6 rebounds.

During college, she played for the South Carolina Gamecocks under head coach Dawn Staley from 2019-23. Amihere was a member of the 2021-22 national championship-winning team led by Aliyah Boston and in her final season averaged 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds, per her ESPN player profile.

She didn’t have a significant role during the first time with the Valkyries, but that can change now that she is starting her second stint in the Bay Area. Golden State’s next game is on Monday against the Los Angeles Sparks at 10 p.m. ET.
