Dieter Hecking set for Wolfsburg return
Wolfsburg confirmed the departure of head coach Daniel Bauer earlier this morning following a run of eight matches without a win. With the club currently sitting in 17th place, the hierarchy have decided to act while survival remains within reach, as they trail FC St. Pauli by just three points in 15th.
According to reports from Kicker, Dieter Hecking is set to return for a second spell in charge of VfL Wolfsburg, nearly a decade after his previous tenure - which included a DFB-Pokal win - ended in 2016. The experienced coach would be tasked with guiding the club away from danger and preventing what would be Wolfsburg’s first ever relegation from the Bundesliga.
Hecking was most recently in charge of VfL Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga, where he was dismissed earlier this season after just one win from the opening five matches.
Should Hecking take over in time, his first match in charge could come away at TSG Hoffenheim - a difficult test as Wolfsburg look to begin their fight for survival.
