Dink and Dunked: Dallas looks miserable in blowout loss to lowly Bears, 31-14
Welp.
The Dallas Cowboys got all of the warning signs and alert bells they could handle in Week 2. For a team that thought they were ready to run with the big dogs based on their Week 1 performance against the world champion Philadelphia Eagles, Week 2 was a wakeup call. Dallas struggled against the New York Giants, who looked inept a week prior, allowing their much-maligned QB Russell Wilson to throw for 450 yards. An OT meltdown allowed the Cowboys to escape with a win, and fans hoped it was a wake up call not to play down to their opponents.
After Sunday's debacle, the Cowboys might need to center themselves as having to play up with everyone else. The 0-2 Chicago Bears, a team that gave up a big comeback in Week 1 and then gave up 52 points in Week 2, were the better team on Sunday. While the Cowboys' offense dinked and dunked, the Bears simply dunked all over the Dallas defense en route to a 31-14 victory.
The loss dropped the Cowboys to 1-2 on the season, and improved the Bears to a similar record. Caleb Williams avoided being sacked as the Cowboys' anemic pass rush continues to frustrate, and the pass coverage allowed big plays and trick plays as Williams threw for over 300 yards and four passing touchdowns.
To make matters worse, Dallas lost WR CeeDee Lamb, DT Kenny Clark and CB Trevon Diggs in this game to various injuries.
Once Lamb was lost in the first quarter, the Cowboys offense continued to be a dink-and-dunk affair, with TE Jake Ferguson catching a career-high 13 passes but for only 82 yards.
And now the wounded Cowboys have to prepare for their worst nightmare as Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers will fly into town next Sunday, not just looking for revenge for trading him away, but after losing a 10-0 lead to the CLeveland Browns to suffer their first loss of the seaso.
Dallas and Green Bay will be the Sunday Night Football matchup in Week 4.
