Dodgers Come Together For Miguel Rojas Amid Personal Tragedy
The Los Angeles Dodgers have supported Miguel Rojas through a tough time personally after his father passed away recently.
On Tuesday, 40 minutes before the game, Rojas got the call that his father, Miguel Rojas Sr., had died from a heart attack on his way to the hospital.
As a result, Rojas was scratched from the lineup, a decision made by Dave Roberts and Freddie Freeman, so he could grieve.
Rojas would return the following day, on Wednesday, to the lineup, playing with a heavy heart.
Before the game, Shohei Ohtani was spotted wearing “MR” written on the side of his hat, along with the rest of the team.
Stephen Nelson, a commentator for Spectrum SportsNet LA, reported that the team made their traditional toast and prayed for Rojas.
“Most know that Miguel Rojas started a tradition: when the Dodgers win a series, they celebrate with a shot/toast. Tuesday night, after the win and series clinch, with Miggy back at the team hotel, the Dodgers toasted him and prayed for the Rojas family,” Nelson wrote on X.
The Dodgers have spent a long time together as a team, gelling well on and off the field, and when tragedy strikes, the brotherhood in the team tends to truly show as it did on Wednesday, April 8.
