Dolphins hiring Jeff Hafley: Fans seem happy with grabbing Packers DC
The Miami Dolphins have hired their new head coach, entrusting their future with Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
And while football diehards may be able to explain what Hafley is likely to bring to the Dolphins, he may not win many popularity contests among the other possible coaching candidates available. But, Hafley did enough to impress Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan — who also comes from Green Bay — to get the job.
But before his first game on the sideline, or his first practice, or even his first press conference, many, many fans and observers have thoughts on the Dolphins' new top whistle-blower.
Here's a quick sampling of social media reaction on Hafley to Miami:
Happy for Hafley man
Really good coach and a really great human https://t.co/sVamgBtYCX— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) January 19, 2026
From the sounds of it, Hafley may be an early favorite to "win the press conference" when he's introduced to the media.
Dolphins fans are going to hate the Hafley hire until they hear him talk for the first 60 seconds of his press conference and will immediately fall in love with him. Hoping Hafley tears it up in Miami.— Andy Herman (@AndyHermanNFL) January 19, 2026
And while there is come dissatisfaction (a lot of which isn't suitable for platform), some fans aren't just saying "wait and see," but rather "give the guy a chance."
When did this "Jeff Hafley Sucks" propaganda start?? Dude is legit one of the best defensive coordinators in the game. Yall are crazy if you actually believe that.— Big B (@bigpackers4x) January 17, 2026
Alas there is some buyer's remorse from some pockets of the fan base. Especially with the news of the Buffalo Bills firing Sean McDermott just hours before:
Another experienced coach who knows the division and whooped our ass for the last 8 years! You’re not going to sell me on Jeff Hafley when there’s more qualified coaches out there. pic.twitter.com/WyT42WsuzH— Mike Williams (@SelfMade0602) January 19, 2026
And, as mentioned earlier, it's hard to ignore the synergy among Sullivan and Hafley, who both from the Packers organization. And it seems Dolphins fans like the idea of familiarity among the top two football decision-makers:
If Sullivan and Hafley can bring us even half the success and culture that Green Bay has had the last 25 years, it’s a massive step in the right direction.

I honestly have no idea what most fans problem is with Hafley. He's more qualified than any head coach we've hired since probably Sparano
We want a coach Sully can work with and knows JH is that guy. Personally I'm fired up about this hire.— FINS UP!!!! (@MattWaldner) January 19, 2026
