Draymond Green named finalist for 2025 Defensive Player of the Year

Prior to the Golden State Warriors' opening game of their first round matchup with the Houston Rockets, the NBA rolled out their finalists for multiple awards, including Defensive Player of the Year. Draymond Green was one of the three finalists for Defensive Player of the Year.

The veteran forward is averaging two steals and 1.4 blocks per game as the anchor of Golden State's defensive front. Behind Green, the Warriors finished the regular season ranked No. 7 in defensive rating at 111. Following the acquisition of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline, the Warriors' defensive rating jumped to 109, good enough for best in the NBA since February 8.

Green earned his first Defensive Player of the Year award for the 2016-17 season. Green was also a finalist, finishing third in 2020-21. Green finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022-23. Green has been named to the NBA's All-Defensive team eight times of his 13 year career.

The four-time NBA champ will be up against Cleveland Cavaliers center Evan Mobley and Atlanta Hawks breakout Australian wing Dyson Daniels.
