Dwight reaches double digits in diamond victories
Pontiac reliever Ryne Mackinson shut down visiting Maroa-Forsyth over the final four innings of the Tribe’s nonconference baseball contest at The Ballpark at Williamson Field on Saturday. But it wasn’t enough as the Trojans left town with a 4-0 victory.
Maroa-Forsyth scored all its runs in the first three innings off PTHS starter Mason Schlosser. Mackinson started the fourth stanza and allowed a walk and two hits over the final four frames while striking out four. Schlosser fanned three and gave up four runs (two earned) in taking the loss.
Jackson Crawford had a double and reached on an error for Pontiac (5-8). Ryson Eilts and Henry DeYoung each singled.
Prairie Central 2, Rantoul 0 – At Rantoul, Collin Hartman and Easton Friedman combined to shut out host Rantoul in an Illini Prairie Conference game on April 17. Hartman struck out eight for the win. Friedman earned the save.
Hartman helped his cause by driving in the first PC tally in the fourth inning. Will Skala followed with a run-scoring single. Lucas Steidinger had the Hawks (5-10) other base hit in the game.
Dwight 11, St. Bede 3 – At Dwight, a seven-run inning pushed host Dwight to a Tri-County Conference win over St. Bede to earn a season split with the Bruins on April 17. Joey Starks got the win after striking out eight. Luke Gallet cleaned up with two strikeouts.
Owen Dunlap’s two-run double opened the Trojans’ scoring in the third. Starks also had a double that plated two runs in the frame. Ayden Collom registered four hits, including a double, and drove in three runs to lead the Dwight (11-6) offense. Dunlap had a double, single and two RBIs while Asher Kargle also had two hits. Starks had a double and RBI, Ryan Bumpous had a hit and two RBIs and Wyatt Statler doubled.
Herscher 8, Pontiac 4 – At Herscher, the host Tigers rallied to top Pontiac in a nonconference game on April 16. PTHS led 3-1 early and the game was tied at 4-4 before Herscher plated two runs in each of the final two innings.
Ryson Eilts and Anderson Horning (one RBI) each had two hits while Tommy Oestmann doubled. Henry DeYoung had a hit and drove in two runs while Jackson Crawford and Drew Lauritsen each singled. Aden Brummel took the loss, striking out eight. Eilts finished up.
Dwight 5, Serena 1 – At Serena, Dwight topped host Serena in a nonconference contest on April 16. The Trojans scored in the top of the first and led the rest of the way. Jake Wilkey got the win with three strikeouts. Evan Cox finished up with six strikeouts.
Luke Gallet had three hits and drove in three runs for the Trojans. Owen Dunlap had two hits, including a double, and Wyatt Statler had two hits.
St. Bede 8, Dwight 4 – At Peru, a pair of four-run innings led host St. Bede to a Tri-County Conference win over Dwight on April 15. Luke Gallet took the loss. Wyatt Statler finished, striking out two.
Gallet had a double and single and scored Dwight’s lone run. Joey Starks had a hit and RBI and Ayden Collom singled.
Hoopeston 10, Prairie Central 8 – At Hoopeston, a pair of four-run innings lifted the host Cornjerkers to a nonconference win over Prairie Central on April 15. Aiden Wheeler struck out two in taking the loss. Lucas Steidinger fanned five in relief.
Easton Friedman collected three hits and drove in two runs for the Hawks. Collin Hartman had a double, single and three RBIs while Lane Whitfill doubled and singled. Tony Schahrer had a home run, Will Skala added a double and RBI, Chase Simpkins also had a two-base hit and Lakin Livengood and Steidinger each singled.
Pontiac 4, Rantoul 1 – At Pontiac, Henry DeYoung made quick work of Rantoul as the Pontiac hurler struck out 11 and scattered five hits in an Illini Prairie Conference victory on April 14.
Anderson Horning provided the big hit with a three-run homer to give the Tribe the lead for good. That was his only hit. Tommy Oestmann had two hits while Aden Brummel had a two-base hit. Jackson Crawford had a hit and RBI and Talon Burgess singled.
Prairie Central 5, BCC 2 – At Fairbury, a three-run third inning lifted Prairie Central past Central Catholic in an Illini Prairie Conference contest on April 14. Collin Hartman singled to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs and Will Skala followed with a run-scoring hit.
Skala had two hits and drove in two runs while Chase Simpkins had a double and single. Hartman had a hit and two RBIs, Easton Friedman collected a hit and RBI, Aiden Wheeler doubled and Daniel Puttkamer singled. Tony Schahrer got the win on the bump, fanning six. Friedman struck out the only batter he faced for the save.
