Eagles bracing for the unthinkable: Young star could retire this offseason
Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson could retire this offseason.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Dickerson’s playing future is uncertain.
Dickerson, 27, has played through several injuries in his first five seasons, including a knee and back injury this season. He tore his ACL twice and suffered ankle injuries during his collegiate career, which caused him to fall to the second round.
Some were concerned that Dickerson’s body would break down in the NFL, shortening his career longevity. Now, that fear could come true.
Even if Dickerson returns for another season, the Eagles need to draft and/or sign his potential replacement. After making three consecutive Pro Bowls (2022-2024), his performance was below average this season. His movement skills and strength, which were once elite, declined. It was clear that he was not healthy.
After the Eagles’ first-round playoff loss, Dickerson told reporters he was unsure if he will ever play at full strength again.
In 2024, Dickerson signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension, including $50 million guaranteed. At the time, he was one of the league’s best guards.
The Eagles hoped that Dickerson would be a core player for many years, but he could walk away two years after getting paid.
