Eagles can trust in a winning formula as their focus shifts to Week 2
We have dissected the Philadelphia Eagles' first test versus the Dallas Cowboys so thoroughly that we're almost forced to move on at this point. There's only so many times one can discuss spitting before becoming nauseous. Thankfully, that is behind us (we hope).
Week 1 left us with much to discuss. That includes everything from weather delays to the Cowboys' strategy to keeping the ball out of A.J. Brown's hands, but football is a week-to-week game. Pages turn quickly. The Kansas City Chiefs are on the horizon. The Birds are a road favorite who should win if they rely on a winning strategy.
Pro Football Focus ranks the Eagles' offensive line as the NFL's best after a week.
We're one week into the 2025-26 NFL season. Some narratives are the same as when we last heard them. Pro Football Focus ranks the Eagles' O-line as the game's best after one week of action.
Left guard Landon Dickerson battled an injury during Philadelphia’s Week 1 win over the Cowboys, which resulted in his exit. Backup Brett Toth handled the Eagles' final 11 offensive snaps in his place. Dickerson also earned the lowest PFF overall grade among the team's offensive linemen (51.5).
The unit had an uncharacteristic game compared to past seasons, allowing 12 pressures — including one sack — on 34 pass plays. That culminated in an 80.9 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating, which ranked only 25th in the NFL in Week 1.
Mailata’s 93.5 PFF run-blocking grade led all offensive linemen in Week 1.
Hurts was PFF's highest-graded Eagle on offense (88.6). Jordan Mailata was the NFL's highest-graded run-blocking lineman in Week 1 (93.5). He was right behind him with an overall grade of 86.4.
Landon Dicekerson left the game due to injury, but Brett Toth handled the final 11 snaps of the game in his place. He didn't make any life-altering mistakes, and here's some good news. Despite the back injury, Dickerson was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday.
Yes, we'd like to see Philadelphia's passing attack gel more and a few more holes for Saquon Barkley, but this is a great team that will figure that out. Games are won in the trenches, though.
Everything works as long as the Eagles rely on the offensive front as the engine. They appear to be set for another impressive season, providing more proof that games are won in the trenches.
