Eagles vs. Rams: 3 reasons for optimism when Philadelphia faces Los Angeles in Week 3

The Eagles (2-0) and Rams (2-0) will meet on Sunday in a rematch of a thrilling, wild Carter weekend contest from last January. Philadelphia will look to add explosive plays to a lethargic offense, while the Rams enter with one of the NFL's more explosive passing games. With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at three reasons for optimism when the Eagles host the Rams at Lincoln Financial Field.

Recent and past history

Kickoff will begin at 10:00 AM Pacific time, and it could take the Rams a few minutes to find their footing. Including playoffs, Philadelphia is 3-0 vs. Los Angeles under the direction of Nick Sirianni (since 2021). The two teams last faced off in the NFC Divisional Playoff on 1/19/25, when the Eagles won by a 28-22 score. Most importantly, Philadelphia is 9-1 over its last 10 games against the Rams.

Home field advantage

Philadelphia has won 11 games in a row at Lincoln Financial Field (including playoffs), which marks the club’s longest winning streak in the venue’s history (since 2003). Overall, the Eagles’ 25-10 (.714) home record since 2021 is the 4th-best figure in the league, behind Buffalo (.829, 29-6), Kansas City (.771, 27-8), and Green Bay (.722, 26-10). Overall, Philadelphia owns the 2nd-best home winning percentage (.815, 22-5) in the NFL since 2022, trailing only Buffalo (.885, 23-3).

Eagles strength is Rams weakness

The 111 yards rushing per game Los Angeles allows is tied for 16th in the NFL, while the Eagles' 140 yards rushing per game rank 7th best in the NFL. In two games against Los Angeles in 2024, Barkley combined for 460 rushing yards and 534 scrimmage yards. In Week 12, Barkley set franchise records with 255 rushing yards (including two rushing TDs of 70+ yards) and 302 scrimmage yards, as each marked the 9th-best single-game performances in NFL history. In the NFC Divisional Playoff, Barkley finished with a team-playoff-record 205 rushing yards (as well as two rushing TDs of 60+ yards). He is the only NFL player to have four 60+ yard rushing TDs against a single opponent in a season.

Eagles aren't turning the football over.

The Philadelphia offense has lacked explosion and precision, but the lack of turnovers has allowed this team to start 2-0. According to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Eagles have been plus-one in turnover margin in both games so far. According to Frank, the Eagles have been plus-one or better in nine straight games, tied for the 9th-longest streak in NFL history and the 3rd-longest in the last 25 years behind the Ravens’ 11-game streak in 2000 and 2001 and the 49ers’ 10-game streak over 2022 and 2023.
